Motor Vehicle Students Gain Insights into Cutting-Edge ADAS Technology

North Devon College鈥檚 Motor Vehicle students had the opportunity to explore the forefront of automotive safety and innovation during a visit from Steve Fox of Hella Gutmann. Steve provided an in-depth look at Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) 鈥 the cutting-edge technology revolutionising vehicle safety and comfort.

ADAS features, such as adaptive聽cruise control, lane departure warning, and automatic emergency braking, are becoming standard in modern vehicles. Steve鈥檚 visit gave students a deeper understanding of how these technologies work, their legal implications, and the government鈥檚 safety requirements.

Steve Fox commented: 鈥淚t was a pleasure to speak with such an engaged group of students at North Devon College. Their enthusiasm for learning about ADAS and how it鈥檚 shaping the future of vehicle safety was inspiring. These students are the future of the motor industry, and I鈥檓 excited to return in February to deliver a hands-on session.鈥

Kevin Eve, Motor Vehicle Lecturer, said: 鈥淪teve has introduced us to the latest equipment being fitted to vehicles, as well as the new laws surrounding these safety systems. We鈥檙e also excited that he may be supplying our workshop with updated equipment in the near future.鈥

Students were equally enthusiastic. One remarked: 鈥淚t鈥檚 amazing to see how technology like ADAS can save lives. Steve鈥檚 talk made me realise how important it is to keep up with these advancements as a future technician.鈥

Steve will return in February 2025 for a hands-on session, where students will have the chance to practically apply what they鈥檝e learned using the latest diagnostic tools.

This visit highlights North Devon College’s strong industry links and commitment to equipping students with the skills needed for the ever-evolving motor vehicle sector.
